The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum
The EYFS is the Statutory Framework that guides how children from Birth to Five learn, develop and are cared for. It underpins everything we do at All Stars Child Care Services Ltd.
Prime Areas (Foundations)
- Communication & Language
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social & Emotional Development
Specific Areas
- Literacy & Mathematics
- Understanding the world
- Expressive Arts & Design
Follow Me & Lead Me
We use a fine balance of both Child Led and Adult Led learning opportunities.
Follow Me (Child Led)
Children’s interests guide their learning. Practitioners observe and extend learning through play.
Supported by Montessori, Froebel, Piaget, Vygotsky & Reggio Emilia.
Lead Me (Adult Led)
Practitioners plan activities based on developmental needs and termly topics. This ensures broad exposure and structure.
Supported by Vygotsky, Bruner & Bandura.
Example Termly Topics:
Autumn: All About Me
- Family, Pets, Body, Culture
Spring: Life on Earth
- Humans, Insects, Animals, Plants
Summer: Exploring World
- England, Jamaica, India, Pakistan
Settling In
A gentle start to nursery life
Starting nursery is a big milestone. Settling-in sessions are a gentle way to help your child feel safe, secure and happy in their new environment. The EYFS places a strong emphasis on children feeling emotionally secure and building strong, trusting relationships.
How we implement them (4 Sessions)
Home Visit
We meet new faces in the comfort of your own home first.
1 Hour Visit
With yourselves and your child in Nursery.
2 Hour Visit
1 Hour with you, 1 Hour with just your child.
Final Session
30mins-1hr with you, then 2 Hours with just your child.
Tracking Children’s Progress
Tracking progress simply means that we observe your child as they play and learn, notice what they enjoy, and record these observations. This is done naturally through everyday play — not tests.
Why is this important?
- Understand your child as an individual
- Support learning through play
- Support wellbeing and confidence
- Identify additional support early
- Work in partnership with parents
Statutory Reports
- Baseline Summary: Within first 2 weeks.
- 2 Year Check: Between 24-36 months.
- Transition Report: When moving rooms.
- School Transition: Before starting primary school.
Key Person
Having a Key Person is a vital part of nursery life. It helps children feel safe, secure and confident while they are with us.
What is a Key Person?
Your child’s Key Person is a named member of staff who builds a close relationship with your child, helps them settle, understands their needs, and acts as your main point of contact.
Why are they important?
- Provide emotional security
- Support confidence and independence
- Support learning and development
- Support transitions
- Build partnerships with parents
How do we choose?
Your child chooses! It will be whoever they form the strongest relationship with within the room.
What if they are absent?
We assign a Secondary Key Person so your child always has a special adult they know well.
