The Early Years Foundation Stage

The Statutory Framework

The EYFS is the Statutory Framework that guides how children from Birth to Five learn, develop and are cared for in Early Years settings across England. It sets out what children should be learning, how they learn best and how practitioners support them to grow into confident, capable learners. It underpins everything we do at All Stars Child Care Services Ltd.

7 Areas of Learning & Development

Prime Areas (Foundations)

  • Communication & Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social & Emotional Development

Specific Areas (Building On)

  • Literacy & Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts & Design

Embedded in Practice

At All Stars, the EYFS is woven naturally into everyday play. Our Teams:

  • Observe strengths, interests and next steps
  • Plan activities supporting all 7 areas
  • Follow interests and extend learning through play
  • Provoke curiosity through adult-led topics
  • Support through warm, language-rich interactions

Follow Me

Child-Led Learning

"Follow Me" is a child-led learning approach where children’s interests, ideas and curiosity guide what and how they learn. Practitioners carefully observe and then support, extend and deepen learning through play.

Key Benefits

  • Strong Self Confidence & Independence
  • Deeper Engagement & Concentration
  • Better Communication Skills
  • A Genuine Love for Learning

Supported by Theorists

  • Maria Montessori: Freedom to explore.
  • Friedrich Froebel: Play is the highest form of learning.
  • Jean Piaget: Constructing knowledge through exploration.
  • Reggio Emilia: Children as capable learners.

Lead Me

Why Adult-Led?

  • Ensures delivery of all 7 EYFS areas.
  • Introduces new ideas children might not choose independently.
  • Supports school readiness (listening, following instructions).
  • Identifies additional needs early.

Supported by Theorists:
